ARTIST STATEMENT
by Megan White
My work is confessional. I share how I feel and how I rationalize my circumstances. I feel a desperate need to give visual form to my interior world through meaningful processes. This often takes the form of interactive sculptures, installations, and videos.
I find great personal meaning in my process of creation. Formal qualities are based on conceptual needs, using tactile materials to explore ideas around trauma, tension, and public/private barriers. Provisional attachments are a focus of my work. Objects are connected in rough, emotive, and necessary ways. I try to practice trusting my own artistic intuition and desires while considering the implications of the way I use visual language.Â
We don’t always see the strings that guide our decisions. My work is an attempt to understand how things happen, how they affect me, and how I will move forward. I want to share this process with others in hopes that I make a connection with someone else.
